Best wishes for your happiness

I have dozens of old Christmas cards that I inherited with my house but I think this one is my favourite.
I love how simple it is and the words are so lovely.  I much prefer the style of old christmas cards - they have a certain charm about them that never fails to appeal to me.

Merry Christmas everyone xx

In general, churches, monasteries and manor houses are particularly never attract me. I’m more interested in chemical plants in ruins or abandoned hospitals... By the way, this places could have their own interest

As Christmas and my birthday draw closer, I have been feeling more and more alienated. I feel less than enthused about what should be an exciting, joyous time of the year. I’m lucky enough to have been born right before Christmas. This year, though, I have been so un-excited by everything. I think I’m “growing up,” as they say. Sigh. I’m not happy about this change. I think that I need to rekindle my childlike spirit. Quickly! Are any of you feeling similarly? What have you done to remedy your situation? Here are some tips and tricks that I will attempt over the next few days. Feel free to do so yourself and let me know how they work for you!

So... as I look back upon the past year,
I feel blessed to have been able to see and share as much as I have.
As a farewell to 2009 (and hello to 2010) I made a video up for our YouTube channel.
It features highlights from our outings over the past 9 months.
Some locations in the video are places I have posted about here,
other locations will not be familiar to some of you.
These are places I will be posting to this group in the near future.

Though I did not originally intend to post the video here, I now think that I should.
Perhaps to get people pumped up for the new year, or to reflect on their own past year.

In the end, all we (Christina and I) really wish is for people
to treat these places with a little more respect and dignity.
The members of this group seem like the type that do just that,
so it is you who I intended the video for anyway...

More than just rotting wood lies within these walls.
There's history to be learned, and knowledge to be instilled.

Wishing everyone the best in 2010, and to not fall through too many decaying floors...
~Rusty

This is a followup to my first post about visiting Trona.

To recap, [info]gynocide and I went on a road trip to Trona, CA--a small town (very nearly a ghost town.. 80% abandoned) 30 miles northeast of Ridgecrest.

Since the Holidays are the time of lights, I thought I'd share an ongoing project I have called Lessons in Light. These are from my earlier beginnings in the project, when I played around with abstract art though the movement of light. There is beauty in trailing. It made me think of the fey, of magic, of wonder, and mystery. Enjoy :)

I find cemeteries to be very inspiring. In a very bittersweet way they are beautiful. Because I have so many pictures, the second part will be linked to my journal.

Toronto has a area called the Junction, based around a strong rail presence became a hotbed for industry in the early 20th Century. As it died, it became a hotbed for abandoned building. Many these days have been rebuilt into condos or simply demolished. Here's a selection of photos from the area...

...when you have too many pretty things sitting around? Like many of you, I'm sure, I tend to have piles and piles of pretty magazine spreads and catalogue pages collected, but I'm out of wall-space, and I'm a terrible collage artist. What's your favorite thing to do with clippings and inspirational images?

Also, some photos from late-autumn park visits:
